2006 Educator of the Year: John Taylor Gatto

John Taylor Gatto, the writer of The Underground History of American Education and numerous other books and articles, taught public school for 30 years, using innovative techniques to empower his student.  While New York State Teacher of the Year, he quit declaring that he was no long willing to hurt children.

John Taylor Gatto has done more research into the educational system than any other writer.  He has uncovered extensive evidence that, at the top levels of government, there was a design to have schools dumb down society so that those who received twelve years of indoctrination would no longer question the leaders and simply follow the will of those trained at certain elite private academies.

He has spoken to audiences all around America and has helped to empower children everywhere.  In 1997,  John Taylor Gatto assisted Michael and Mary Leppart when they put together a youth-friendly homeschooling conference known as the Link,  to enlighten parents and children about the opportunities available to children outside of school.

John Taylor Gatto is currently putting together a documentary series, titled the Fourth Purpose, about compulsory schooling. It exposes the harm of the current educational system and what can be done to make things better.

John Taylor Gatto has done more to empower young Americans than any other education in American History.  This award is long overdue.
